Building Collective Efficacy: What process did your school take in developing your School Growth Plan?

The staff met many times to review data and have conversations around our street data at Mission Hill. We made recommendations of what is working and what needs to change, focusing on new literacy and numeracy practices. Along with staff, we also had conversations with parents at PAC and during our family nights, where families could come learn more about parenting and school. Mission Hill Elementary currently enrolls about 290 students in Kindergarten to Grade 7. Our school is located on the unceeded territory of the Syilx people – we are pleased to be able to work, live, learn, and play on this land. We are located in a residential area with a range in socioeconomic circumstances. Our school pride is founded on our rich cultural diversity and special programs that support all students. Indigenous Students: Currently, approximately 20% of our students are Indigenous. Our staff, Indigenous Support Worker, and Indigenous Outreach Worker support our students academically, culturally, socially, and emotionally in the classroom. Our school focuses on Indigenous learning within the classroom for all students and we incorporate the First People’s Principles of Learning within our school culture. English Language Learning support for students at Mission Hill is provided at our school. We have students enrolled from all over the world, representing over 10 different languages. International Students add another cultural dimension to our school. Currently we have International students studying here from various parts of the world. Student Success: This year, we are providing a range of services and supports to more than 40 students with physical, academic and social/emotional special educational requirements. These students needs are supported through with programming created by their classroom teachers, school based resource teachers, EAs and other school-based team members (Principal/Vice Principal, Counselor, NOYFSS, Speech & Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, etc.).
